In the last weeks I have focused my mind on the robot's head. I have completed an hard work for redefine the concept and the features: I have started with a simple idea, I needed a pan&tilt system for in order to the two webcams. This concept has changed, especially when I saw a couple of video of two robots developed in the past years at MIT laboratory, the robot Leonardo and the robot Kismet. And with this... why can't I provide the robot Golem of a mouth, a couple of ears and a couple of headbrowns? Yeah, this is a beautiful idea! In this manner the Golem will can have a big interest by human friends! For this reconcept I make a new structure for the head, now there are more materials: iron, pvc, pexiglass, aluminum. There are big problem to assembly all this materials, I want only aluminium and PVC and there will be 8 servomotors to move all parts of head.
But when you want move more devices with simple routine by a single PIC there are more problems: the motion of head are very bad and inhuman. One possible solution for these problems are the interrupt, but in the head there aren't only 8 servomotors, there is the command-bus module, there are sensors, etc etc. To resolve all this I will make a simple Realtime OS: GOLem Pic Realtime Operating System, the GOLPROS. In this manner I can manage all the features of head with a single Freedom I board.
Now there are more problem to resolve, you can see a low resolution video where Golem can move the ears!
